Vitamin K

If you are breastfeeding, your baby needs extra vitamin K for blood clotting. Vitamin K is available in a dropper bottle at the drugstore or pharmacy.

You should start with the drops from the 8th day. With full breastfeeding, you provide the vitamin K for up to three months. In formula, the vitamin K has already been added by the manufacturer. If you are going to add formula in addition to breastfeeding, you have to adjust the number of drops. 500ml of formula contains as much vitamin K as what you give daily with the drops. So, if you give more than 500ml of formula per 24 hours, you can stop adding the vitamin K.
