Civil registration
After the birth of your child, you must register it with the Civil Registry of the municipality where your child was born. Usually this is done by your partner. If there is no partner or your partner is unable to make a declaration, someone else who was present at the birth must make the declaration. As a mother, you can always register a birth. In some municipalities it is possible to file part of the registration via DigiD. Registering is free.
The official of the municipality draws up a birth certificate, which is included in the registers of the civil status. This is the legal proof of the birth of your child. When you register, you will receive a birth certificate and citizen service number (BSN) for your child.
WITHIN 3 WORKING DAYS
The registration must be made within three days of the birth. Weekends and public holidays are not included. You can make an appointment online or visit the municipality during the opening hours of the municipality.
If your child was born at home in the Haarlemmermeer, the registration can be made completely online.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
Please bring the following items with you when you are registering your baby:
- Valid ID of both parents
- Are you married? Marriage certificate to add to your child
- Unmarried? Bring a copy of the acknowledgement deed
- If you have had a deed of choice of name drawn up, take it with you too
- Also consider the date and time of birth of your child
