Guardianship

You probably prefer not to think about what will happen to your child if something happens to you. You want the best for your child and if something unexpected happens, you would like to have control over the future of your child(ren). That is why it is important to arrange the guardianship properly. If you have not arranged custody, the subdistrict court will call on the family to consult with you. If that is not possible, child protection will be involved, and your child will be placed in a foster family. Fortunately, this does not happen often.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

It is not enough to put down on paper at home who you designate as guardian of your child(ren). It is legally required to record this via the notary in a will or notarial deed.
