Umbilical stump

After birth, the umbilical cord is clamped and cut. This umbilical stump will dry up in the first week and fall off within 4-10 days. It does not require any special care. If necessary, a gauze can be wrapped around it. If it looks a bit dirty, the maternity nurse will clean it gently with a gauze.

Sometimes the navel can still bleed a little after birth. Especially when your baby is crying or defecating, a few drops of blood can come out of the umbilical stump due to the increase in pressure in the baby's belly. This is not bad. However, if it continues to bleed, give us a call.
