Discharge

During the last weeks of pregnancy, the vaginal discharge may increase slightly and become thin. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether it's discharge or amniotic fluid. Discharge is milky white and looks like a white, thin cream. Amniotic fluid is watery and smells a little sweet.

CAUSE

The pregnancy hormones make the tissues of the vagina much looser and more elastic. The extra blood flow in the wall of the vagina causes the mucous membranes to work more intensively and results in more discharge from the vagina. In warm weather or exercise, this can increase even more.

TIPS

Try not to wear panty liners all the time, instead opt for cotton underwear. The use of panty liners makes it very soggy. Good hygiene is very important, but avoid using soap. The use of soap when washing your vagina reduces the acidity level of your vagina. This increases the risk of a vaginal yeast infection.
